Heatmap Is Hiring a News Intern
Come work with us.

Climate media startup Heatmap News is looking for an ambitious, energetic intern to support its growing newsroom on an ongoing basis.
The intern’s duties will be wide and varied. They’ll assist with the nuts and bolts of maintaining a daily news operation, from attending daily staff meetings and consulting on headlines to building newsletters. Beyond that, the precise duties will vary depending on the intern’s interests. Want to report and write? Hone your editorial judgment? Practice producing a podcast? You got it.
Candidates should be intrepid, resourceful, and hungry to contribute, with a deep interest in climate science and clean energy. They should be able to demonstrate familiarity with at least some aspects of the world we cover, whether that be the renewables business, regulatory policy, or the frontiers of clean technology. Above all, they should have a genuine desire to learn and grow as a climate journalist.
Prior experience in a professional newsroom is a plus, but candidates with other types of experiences will also be considered, including but not limited to college newsrooms and self-published newsletters or podcasts.
Candidates should be passionate about Heatmap's mission and absolutely thrilled about building something from the ground up. This position is part-time and remote, with an hourly wage of $16.50 per hour. Candidates across the United States will be considered.
Interested candidates should send a brief cover letter and resume, along with 3 to 5 samples of published work, to editors@heatmap.news, with the subject line ‘News Intern Application.’ Samples of published work can encompass a variety of media, including news articles, newsletters, podcasts, video, and data projects.
