Heatmap News, the award-winning climate and clean energy media company, is looking for an ambitious researcher to help track the local politics of the energy transition.

The researcher will work closely with the Heatmap Pro team to build out Heatmap’s data around political sentiment, local laws, and real-time coverage of energy projects and data centers. The ideal candidate should be proactive and a strong writer with an interest in the intersection of local politics, data, and the energy transition. A background in data analysis and journalism is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

- Setting and executing aggressive data collection goals to meet Heatmap Pro’s product roadmap and modeling updates

- Originating novel sources of data to supercharge Heatmap’s energy intelligence capabilities

- Researching energy transition-related projects and local laws, and synthesizing the findings in short briefs and structured datasets

- Developing and implementing qualitative risk assessments to gauge openness or restrictiveness toward renewable energy development

- Working with the data team, sales team, and clients to iterate on data-driven products and launch new features

The ideal candidate is:

- Comfortable with context switching between tasks spanning qualitative policy research, written synthesis, and database maintenance

- Unafraid to get their hands dirty working with data

- Excited to take on a high-accountability role in which subtle details matter

- An experienced writer with a track record of translating complicated source material into accurate, understandable prose

The salary minimum is $65,000 and the maximum is $75,000. Competitive benefits, unlimited paid time off, and a generous equity plan, which gives employees a real stake in the company, are also offered. This position is remote.
